Infant Galaxy Clusters at Low Redshifts?

چکیده
The population and population composition of galaxies in galaxy clusters at present reflect the mass of the clusters and the mass growth of the galaxies in the past. We investigate them for six clusters. We show that galaxies in massive clusters stopped growing at redshifts of ∼4. Moreover, we find that some small galaxy clusters (groups) have too many massive galaxies for their apparent masses. One possibility is that these groups are much more massive and in a phase just before virialization. If this is the case, they should be called ‘infant galaxy clusters’ that will be matured clusters in the dynamical time-scale (∼ 10 yrs).

Gravitational Redshifts in Simulated Galaxy Clusters
We predict the amplitude of the gravitational redshift of galaxies in galaxy clusters using an N-body simulation of ΛCDM universe. We examine if it might be possible to detect the gravitational effect on the total redshift observed for galaxies. For clusters of mass M ∼ 10hM⊙, the difference in gravitational redshift between the brightest galaxy and the rest of the cluster members is ∼ 10 km s....
متن کاملGalaxy evolution in clusters up to z = 1 . 0 ⋆
We present a combined study of the colour–magnitude relation, colour distribution and luminosity function of a sample of 24 clusters at redshifts 0.3 < z < 1. The sample is largely composed of X–ray selected/detected clusters. Most of the clusters at redshifts z < 0.6 display X–ray luminosity or richness typical of poor clusters or groups, rather than the more typical, massive clusters studied ...
متن کاملPhotometric Redshifts for Dposs Galaxy Clusters at Z < 0.4
We report on the creation of an unbiased catalog of galaxy clusters from the galaxy catalogs derived from the digitized POSS-II (DPOSS). Utilizing the g-r color information, we show that it is possible to estimate redshifts for galaxy clusters at z¡0.4 with an rms accuracy of 0.01.
متن کاملX-ray Properties of Intermediate-redshift Groups of Galaxies
We have undertaken a multiwavelength project to study the relatively unknown properties of groups and poor clusters of galaxies at intermediate redshifts. In this paper, we describe the XMM-Newton observations of six X-ray selected groups with 0.2 < z < 0.6. The X-ray properties of these systems are generally in good agreement with the properties of low-redshift groups. They appear to follow th...
متن کاملRadio Galaxy Selected Clusters at High Redshift and Associated Ero Overdensities
Galaxy clusters at high redshift present a superb opportunity to study galaxy evolution, with large galaxy samples at fixed distances. Several lines of evidence point towards large formation redshifts and passive evolution for cluster ellipticals. At redshifts larger than z ∼ 0.8, this picture rests on data from only a handful of rich clusters. We have observed four potential clusters to sample...
